A Day in the life of a Bellydancer

Blogging is all about the perks. Yet we fail to see the effort and motivation that goes into writing out a blog post that might not even be read. The nice thing about interacting with other bloggers is knowing they share the same sentiment. We blog as a hobby but its a damn tedious hobby. It does, however, have its perks.... One being the ability to experience things we generally would not if we didn't have a blog.

For World Belly Dancing day, I got to convert from an ordinary teacher/freelancer/blogger and become a belly dancer (which is something so unlike me) . I was invited by Vanessa the studio principal to spend the day with belly dancers from Janan Bellydance and do all that they do (except for dance as being an acting belly dancer, I could in no way compete with the crop of the cream). So the day started off with a little dancing and chanting in a circle. Candida one of the most confident belly dancers did a masterclass and showcased her inner Goddess. I unfortunately got late for Candida's dancing lessons due to unforseen traffic situation getting to Casa Do Sol School in Linden. After the dancing there was a break where everyone could freshen up and get ready for the next event.

After a longer than expected break, we were joined by Londie who is an ex Chanel pro make up artist. Londie just like me experienced some terrible traffic and lost his way on the way to the school. The ex Chanel pro artist had recently started to work for the Kelso makeup brand. Firstly I didn't even know Kelso had their own brand and secondly wow their products are amazing! Londie was generous enough to bring along the Kelso products for us to sample and enjoy.

Londie knew what he was doing he was composed and calm with a bag of tricks. He taught the belly dancers as well as Aari and I a thing or too about fabulous make up. What I learnt from him was that the preparation of the face was extremely important. Although we tend to rush through the face lotion application stage we fail to recognize how important rubbing the lotion in circular motions may be. This technique already makes the skin dewy and ready for the actual makeup application. His techniques were literally flop proof. We did end up going slightly overtime meaning all the other belly dancers from across the country were beginning to arrive for the actual belly dance show. Eventually Londie had to wrap things up and Aari and I left to get ready for a night filled with belly dancers all joining forces for the charity initiative World Belly Dance day.
