B Beautiful

Its astonishing to see just how many women (of all ages) want to apply makeup and beautify themselves daily. Its also startling to note how many women will confess to looking like "The Joker" when they've applied a full face of basic make up. With makeup making waves of late (especially on Youtube)  its no wonder why women all around the world are becoming more interested in trends like contouring and highlighting. "I want to look like Kaushal with a full face of make up," you often hear today's ladies say.

Beandri- a Benoni based makeup artist has taken women's makeup wishes and concerns into consideration and has started her own makeup workshops. The make up workshops take place on Saturdays mainly so as to accommodate working ladies. The blog was lucky enough to attend one of her makeup for beginners workshop. They are cost effective as she only charges R350 per class.

The workshop was held at the Brazenhead Parkrand restaurant in Boksburg. The atmosphere was relaxed and playful. The restaurant was on the quieter side especially because the class started at 10:30 and ended just past 12:30.  A group of 17 eager ladies gathered together to absorb details of the makeup application process as well as share their epic make up fails. Being a student of the LISOF makeup course, it was refreshing to attend a course that wasn't as tension filled. With B Beautiful the ladies were wishing to gain some information on makeup and not perfect the skill of flawless application.  Beandri provided each student with a makeup manual and a collection of make up brushes. The makeup manual contained basic tips and tricks including colour correcting concealers, face shape identifications and brow shapes.

The class began with a  lucky draw and a boot camp giveaway.
Thereafter each lady had to introduce themselves as well as admit their reason for attending the class. Many ladies mentioned what they wished to achieve from the class as well. Thereafter Beandri took to explain the different brushes in the kits. A model from the 17 ladies was selected and Beandri took to painting half her face with primer, concealer, foundation, eye shadow, mascara, contour and blush. Beandri was one make up artist who made the audience feel as if it was okay to make mistakes along the way. She admitted when she had gotten any fallout or made slight make up judgement errors. She informed her keen learners about cheaper product alternatives that she would personally recommend.

Three tricks I learnt from the B Beautiful workshop:
Firstly when applying mascara for someone else,  it may get tricky and smudges are expected. Using a cardboard or piece of card under the closed eyelid will prevent getting too much mascara fallout.

Secondly she used the essence camouflage full coverage concealer. The concealer is fairly cheap compare to other concealers that I'm used to and this concealer works just as well as more well known brands to hide flaws. A basic full coverage concealer works better than colour correcting concealers especially when you a make up application beginner or in a rush to put on your make up.

Thirdly Beandri shared her personal  foundation secret. She confessed to using YARDLEY LONDON STAYFAST FOUNDATION. The foundation has a 24 hour lasting power and really does stay on for a  longer period of time plus is a relatively light foundation that can be re-applied on darker patches and spots for fuller coverage of flaws.
I immediately bought a foundation as for me a long lasting foundation is a must. I want to apply my make up in the morning and require staying power as I cannot reapply  foundation during the day. I bought the YARDLEY LONDON Natural Beige foundation only to realize it is slightly too tanned for my skin so I've been mixing it up with the Maybelline FIT me in shade 110 the Porcelain colour to achieve my exact colour. I must admit the combination is ideal.
Ever since the workshop I also bought another YARDLEY product that has become a daily essential. I bought the LOOSE POWDER in TRANSLUCENT BARE. This setting powder is the best to set the YARDLEY FOUNDATION and achieve a matte make up finish.

Once the half-face demonstration was complete, all the make up newbies realized just what a transformation basic make up can make. Having half a face done and half a face bare made it easier to see how startling a make up transformation really is. Makeup learners thereafter had to proceed to attempt to paint their own faces. Beandri walked around offering help and advice on blending, face shapes etc.

Learners remained un-pressurized, calm and collected throughout their trials. Benadri understood that the ladies were beginners and made no insulting comments. The casual vibe of the class had to be applauded. Make up lessons especially for beginners need to be easy going. Too stern guidance on application doesn't allow learners to experiment and identify their personal application styles and preferences.

I took Aari with me to class and ended up painting her face instead of mine during the practice time. Needless to say I enjoyed my time perfecting my make up artistry skills and obviously I loved every moment of it .
