A View From The Top
We often watch romance movies and get lost in the illusion of the perfect romantic setting. If only we could find a scene that leaves us breathless and lost for words. I always thought that to find a picturesque scene like the one straight out of the movies I had to venture overseas and seek far and wide places. Well rest assured -A plane ticket is not needed to find the best scenes possible. South Africa might I add is not short of some of the most majestic mountains nor does the country lack the most breathtaking greens. I recently read a Cosmopolitan magazine article on Facebook about how to be a travel blogger. One of their points that stuck was sometimes no one will offer you the opportunity you just need to do it. Also they mentioned that if you cannot afford to visit elite raved about places maybe all you need is a good camera and the willpower to venture around South Africa to decide what you feel is the beauty of travel. My personal blogging advice: If the scene speaks volumes on its own even an ordinary Iphone camera is enough to do it justice.
For Naby's birthday we booked into La Roca Guest House in Nelspruit. La Roca is a 4 star hotel with a fabulous 9.8 rating on most travel advisory sites. We stayed in a standard room which was comfortable in its own right. The bed was spacious and allowed for an effortless sleep due to its percale cotton linen and fluffy duvet draping. The shower with its large shower head was certainly enjoyable. The standard rooms are more reasonably priced but I believe the executive suites are much more cushy and posh. I could rave on and on about the hotel itself but this post is not meant to be a review of the guest house bedrooms.
When Naby and I arrived at the guest house it was about half 6 on Friday night and it was rather dark and rainy. We didn't get to absorb much of the view nor did we see what the resort had to offer. We were awed by the outdoor pool that looked simply wow. We were slightly disappointed that we couldn't go for a night dip due to the terrible rainy weather. As usual I was freezing due to the nippy air and the slight drizzle.
We stayed only for a night and luckily the booking came with a buffet breakfast. It was during breakfast that we got to be mesmerized by the majestic mountains and game reserve below us. Breakfast is served piping hot on the hotel pool terrace overlooking one of the most heart capturing sights ever. Guests sit under a thatched lapa overlooking the panoramic views of a nature reserve. We chose to sit directly next to the balcony to soak in all the beauty that unfolded before us.
Breakfast included your choice of freshly made muffins, eggs and fresh mushrooms. The four slice pop up toaster could be used by guests to make their own toast according to their bread preference. A selection of Five Roses teas were on offer along with strong, freshly brewed coffee, lemon water and two types of juice. Breakfast also included healthier meal options like oats, cereals and yogurts.
The pool was next to the terrace and offered even more of a luxurious feel to the already gorgeous breakfast setting. Naby and I personally love clouds and we love to look up at the clouds and discuss what shapes we see in it. From the breakfast terrace you can literally reach for the clouds and hold them in the palm of your hand. The terrace will also be excellent for star gazing or moon sightings during the night.
