India's Republic Day- SA Culinary Club

We all know the Indian stereotype namely you can only be a good wife if you know how to cook. Even though times are changing and girls are pushed towards having careers and working, Indian girls are still seen as being inferior if they don't know how to cook. Before I got married I hated this idea that knowing how to cook makes you a good wife. It annoyed me that people would judge you based on your cooking skills rather than the amount of degrees that you managed to bag or your smart mouth that could produce more words than the Oxford dictionary. Whilst struggling to peel fresh garlic one day during the December holidays, I realized no matter how much I hated being in the kitchen (and smelling like onions) there is an accomplishment to be felt in cooking up a meal. Triumph  smells so good when you turn raw tomatoes, onions, and spices into a succulent curry. There is even an added element of triumph when you serve a meal that you cooked so well. Its those, "this food is delicious" moans that you crave to hear and those complements and appreciation burps that makes slogging all day in the kitchen worth it. Upon a visit to a friend this past week, the wife was loudly applauded for cooking an excellent meal and though she was used to those kind of compliments and just accepted it with a smile, it made me melt and that's when I realized you can win hearts with good food.

The SA CULINARY CLUB is one institute that is as passionate about bringing people together as they are all about producing excellent food in a fun way (Think Masterchef Australia).  The SA Culinary club offers interactive cooking classes and is an excellent date night idea (hint hint: Valentine's day plans). Imagine learning or perfecting a skill with the person you love - a skill that you probably would need to stay happy with the person you love.  The classes works with guests working under strict guidance of culinary experts to prepare an appetizer and the main course. The dessert is thereafter prepared by a qualified chef. The class attendants then dig in to the meals prepared by themselves and receive a copy of the recipes to take home. The blog is glad to accept the invite to a cooking masterclass in celebration of the Indian Republic Day this coming Friday. In celebration of India's special day (26th January 2018), SA CULINARY CLUB is teaching their attendants to prepare some delectable Indian dishes including my personal favourite butterchicken and turmeric rice as the mains. Guests will also work to prepare lemon chicken as the starter (I'm curious to know what lemon chicken is as I've never seen my mum prepare it ever). The dessert is one commonly served in India as well as in Indian restaurants and is a saffron kulfi (ice cream). The dessert is prepared by the chef. If you would like to join the class, simply log on to the website:  https://www.saculinaryclub.com/dinner-classes to read more about the institute, tickets and classes.
Tickets retail for 399 each  and is quite reasonable a fee to pay for a cooking class and a full three course meal.

Personally I am excited to use my Indian food knowledge and showcase my newly found cooking skills. I am also happy that I get to drag my husband with and make him slave in the kitchen too (for once). Look forward to a full review of the SA CULINARY CLUB venue and event....
