Danielle Steel's fairytale as enthralling and real a novel it was, was also a relate-able one for me. I most connected with Camille Lammenais having grown up in a fairytale world with parents who remained deeply in love for over 30 years. I had never imagined what life would be like outside the comfort of my cocoon. Learning that not everyone shared the same magical fairytale life as mine rocked my boat as did Camielle's when her mother died and she was left to her own devices in fighting a wicked soon to be step mother.
The story as told by Steel revolves around the protege Camille who grew up in the confines of her family's vineyard in Napa Valley. Her parents are the epitome of the ideal couple who still glows in the shine of love after being married for a long time. Camille returns to Napa Valley after her graduation to be in charge of a Chateau that her parents owns. Camille's dreams have thus far all come true but never could she have predicted that her mother's sudden death would end her fabulous life. In his mourning period, Camille's dad Christophe falls under the spell of the French Damsel who woos his heart. The news of her father pursuing the French lady shocks Camille and this is when she begins to see that there is more than meets the eye with her dad's French love.
Do all fairytales end well? or Can Camille's fairytale end magically?
Danielle Steel is one author whose work you cannot help but look forward to and with this book she managed to produce characters who are so strong in personality you cannot help but either grow attached to them or hate them. The entire novel unrevealed like the title suggests, "A Fairytale". There was, however, a lack of solid dialogue that would have an impact on the reader far after the tale was finished. The addition of these strong and memorable conversations would make the fairytale-like-story have much more depth and substance.
We all search for a fairytale but Danielle Steel's writing captures the essence of the statement, "Fairytales do come true."
