Weddings and other such fairytales

As many of my readers may know this year marks the year I become a bride (my first time ever and hopefully my last time ever).  The transition from being just the bridesmaid to the bride means developing a strong interest in all things bridal (basically having the stress rest upon your shoulders). Think bling, sparkly and diamante (need I say more)..... They say the wedding is the most important day of your life but its all the planning that goes on behind the scenes that makes it one of the most thoroughly planned days of your life as well. When mum said it takes months and months of pre-prep I should have believed her.

When Dramatic Dollhouse luckily received tickets to the Bridal Expo at the Ticket Pro Dome, I jumped at the opportunity to attend as personally an expo dedicated solely to all things bridal was perfect for me. If you follow my Instagram journey you would know that I have attended many expos and so I'm rather familiar with all things linked to the expo but as soon as I attended this expo I couldn't wait to blog about it.

The entrance itself was rather whimsical and inviting (somewhat of an Alice in Wonderland wedding theme). The expo boasted only the best wedding designers, bridal couture stalls, bridal accessory stores and two of the best personalized bridal shoe designers Elli Nicole and Imaani bridal. I was thrilled to venture from stall to stall being overwhelmed by only the most stunning designer dresses and gowns. Inspiration was the main theme of the wedding event labelled the best wedding event of the year. From photographers showcasing the most glamorous wedding coffee table books and make up artists sporting the finest make up looks, the expo left you with bags full of contacts to ensure your dream day is nothing less than simply dreamy...

The entire event as well as the fashion show which was the highlight of the day was sponsored by the South African Wedding Inspirations magazine. The vivid glossy images of wedding gowns that graced the wedding spread came to life on the stage for hundreds of eager brides to catch a glimpse of. As tulle, georgette, satin, lace embellishments and chiffon floated on the pure white stage, the viewers were left mouth agape trying to recover from the sight of one beautiful dress being outclassed by the next. I was amazed that anything including a perfectly draped blue and beige ensemble could be an ideal wedding gown as well.

The thing I loved the most about the expo was the incredible competitions that gave brides a bit of hope to win the dress of their dreams or an entire wedding just like their fantasy wedding. I entered... Fingers crossed, hopefully lady luck is in my bridal party.

The hospitality of all the stall owners was just unbelievable. I loved that "brides -to- be" were allowed to capture as many photographs as they required whether it be of dresses or of table decors and setting. It was really the best amalgamation of a bunch of creative minds displaying wedding genius.

I enjoyed every moment and felt proud to be a bride to be.........................

                                              THE MISTRESS by Danielle Steel
I have been meaning to review the book, "The Mistress" by Danielle Steel for a while now. It so happens that I only had a chance to pen my thoughts on the book  now.

If you have known me for a while you would know that my love for Danielle Steel books cannot be overemphasized. When I first became obsessed with reading love stories in my early teens my aunt passed down to me the books, "The Promise" and "No Greater Love". Both these books which have been written by this world renowned author. From those two novellas I feel hopelessly in love with Danielle Steel's work and her writing which could be termed as stunningly flawless.

The Mistress although it will never in my eyes match up to her book "The Promise", is  a worthwhile read. The book tells of Natasha Leonova who owes her life to a Russian elite Vladimir. Vladimir has offered her protection after rescuing her from the brutal streets of Moscow. As destiny would have it both Natasha and Vladimir's lives become entwined with the life of Theo Luca. Theo is a mere restaurant owner in a restaurant decorated with art by his late father. Theo's eyes falls on Natasha and Vladimir's eyes fall on Theo's paintings. Being a mistress of such a powerful and malicious man, Natasha knows her boundaries yet is unable to think of anything else but being liberated from Vladimir's clutches....

We tend to forget that love is often intertwined with freedom. We believe that when we in love we lose freedom yet this should never be the case. I enjoyed that Steel chose to paint a real picture of having tremendous wealth and control. She shows that with wealth comes desire. She also outlines that from all the desires in the world; the desire for love and freedom is by far the deepest desire. With the lust for love and freedom courage is bound to follow......

The Mistress is available at Penguin Random House South Africa.
