The Beautiful
Belinda Bauer- The Beautiful Dead
I personally love authors who can write twisted stories but make you crave more of it, Belinda Bauer is certainly one such author. The thriller deals with the career savvy Eve Singer who will do anything to boost the ratings of her TV crime show.
Little does Eve know that by covering the murders of the creepy serial killer she is becoming his next target. Can she escape?
Eve is portrayed as the ideal heroine of the story. She is gutsy, bold, daring and bears all the qualities of the perfect journalist. As we delve deeper into Eve's character through how she is portrayed in interactions with her father we realize her true strength. We also realize that Eve is not only after the story but she is yearning for justice.
The story takes the psychological workings of the inner mind of serial killer and combines it with the willpower and strong mindedness of a women Protégé to create the perfect thriller that will have you feeling the shivers down your spine.
I particularly enjoyed the beginning of the book which opened up with the killing of Layla Martin (surprisingly she has the same name as I do). The way her death scene was written had me clinging onto my blanket and eagerly awaiting more.
Personal view: Best thriller of the year. I literally held my breath until the end of the story.
