Dusty in the Kitchen

So I've read a post by http://thegildedhangerblog.com/ where she mentioned somewhat neglecting her blog due to blogger insecurities. Time and time again you hear established bloggers complain about their neglected blog or you see people join the blogosphere as they think it looks so cool but eventually realize how much work and dedication is involved in maintaining a blog. Like mentioned by http://thegildedhangerblog.com/, us bloggers always doubt ourselves questioning whether we are good enough. At times it feels like we are never good enough. We have some loyal readers who take time out of their busy schedules to appreciate our posts but there's always the fear of do people see me as rambling on and on and no one even cares. All these thoughts float in our heads and it stands as a block stopping us from writing and caring for our blogs. Thing is there's no one on the other side forcing you to write, there's no punishment for not writing and no reward for writing. The power to uphold a blog comes from within. You are the only motivator on your journey.Sometimes you realize that your blog is your dream and irrespective of who appreciates it; you certainly should.

My realization to urge myself forward came in the form of a cookbook. THE CLASSIC SOUTH AFRICAN COOKBOOK,  written by Melinda Root is inspirational in its own right. She was encouraged by a friend to write her recipes down and after penning down a few recipes she realized she had the power of inspiring other women to cook wholesome home cooked meals too .

The recipe book was a perfect fit for me with easy to make meals be it breakfast, salads, pastas and soups. None of the recipes involved heavy hard to source ingredients.. It was the easiest way to get some flour on my fingers without making too much of a mess in the kitchen.  It reminded me of old school cooking (my ouma) but had more modern ways, tips and techniques of doing the usual meals like for instance the breakfast eggs. The book belongs In every SA kitchen and is a quick reference when you want to try tried and tested meals but with a cultural homely edge to it.

The entire book had a farm, home feel to it. It featured recipes from Mediterranean, Indian and African cultures.

So as for inspiration this book by Mrs Roots did the trick.

Got me thinking:  If life gives you lemons..... be glad at least life gave you lemons. Changing one's perspectives and outlooks is sometimes the best thing one can do.
