Lights off, Lights on! Mask off, Mask on!
"Dad, the lights have gone!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, extremely baffled by the sudden darkness that mysteriously engulfed me. It was five thirty this morning and due to it being winter in SA it was still as dark as ever. Needless to say the dark silence allowed for the most potent sleep which extended beyond my usual sleeping pattern, seeing me only open my eyes at ten this morning. Despite the countless horror films that provokes us to be afraid of the dark, the darkness is often peaceful and pleasant. The quiet that creeps out of the dark makes for the perfect environment to let our mind wander to thoughts we would not dare let cross our minds in bright light. Another thing about the dark is that your self confidence is at its very peak....If no one can spot your flaws then perhaps they are not there.
Needless to say the dark is the mask that dims away the things that are visible in the light. The mask is the multiple concealers, colour correctors, foundations and pore minimizers we apply to mask away the flaws.
Battling with a stained ego and teenage acne is one thing, but handling adult acne and pimples starting at twenty two, now that's another story.Recently, I've been told by many friends alike that they are suffering from adult acne, me being no exception. Having gone through the teenage years having flawless skin is amazing but suffering the consequences after becoming an adult now that's just brutal. My occasional pimple a month turned into a colony of scars and dark patches which stained my face and haunted my appearance. The mirror is never your friend when there's a pimple on your face.

My nimue journey was only meant to last twelve weeks but my personal journey lasted a little longer than 12 weeks.
What I love about nimue
Before I started my journey with nimue, I had to download the nimue app on my phone. Nowadays almost everything works with an app and I was glad that nimue had jumped on the app bandwagon.This app directs you to a skin classification questionnaire which allows you to answer questions about your skin so that the app can correctly define your skin type. (Cool huh?) The skin classification I obtained was interactive skin so obviously the products I received all tended to my skin type.The app allows you to find out what prescription you need as well as tells you where to find your nearest stockist of these products. This personally made my nimue journey more exciting as well as allowed me to hesitate less when it came to trying their products. Its always stressful to apply products you've never tried before to your skin; the face area especially. Imagine if you break out into hives or burn your face due to a reaction from using the product. The app helped calm my nerves and made my first step towards application all the more easier. The app also allows you to journal your thoughts along the way during your nimue journey.
The trial box came packed to the brim with phase one goodies that were made to last for a maximum of 4 months along with a complimentary active rejuvenation treatment voucher to use at THE LASER Beautique to the value of R490.
Every routine begins with a good cleanser. The nimue cleansing gel was a creamy and soap-less cleanser that was manufactured to prepare the skin for renewal. Aside from removing impurities and make-up residue that dirty the skin's surface, this cleanser also acts as an exfoliator. Through my nimue journey, I learnt how vital it is to cleanse one's skin both in the morning and evening before bed. The reason for this is because when you cleanse at night, your impurities are actively removed and the skin renewal process is also activated. If your cleansing routine is followed through every morning, the excess dead skin cells that have shed during the night are removed.
After cleansing comes conditioning....
I was at first baffled by the fact that a skin care routine has a conditioning ritual as well. The only conditioning I'm great at is hair conditioning.
The conditioning process is put in place to promote skin health restoration by accelerating the skin rejuvenation process. The nimue conditioner lite degreases the skin offering added exfoliation. Three sprays of the conditioner has to be applied using a dry or damp gauze. Nimue believes that gauze are better to use than cotton wool or wipes as they assist the natural exfoliation process. (And we all know how vital the exfoliation process is for our skin).
More exfoliation....Nimue clearly are steadfast believers of the exfoliation process and the exfoliator is like none other that I've ever tried. We all expect exfoliators to be grainy sugar like particles that feels like wet sand applied to the face, right? Well behold, the nimue exfoliator made of pineapple and papaya enzymes is as mild and smooth as pure liquid formulated to yet again assist in skin renewal. The nimue exfoliation process is set to last for approximately nine minutes so think a daily home facial so that eeky blackheads are sure to be gone...
It is advisable to follow the exfoliation process with conditioner yet again. Here is where I would often feel a tingly sensation and could feel the sting of my new range of products. According to nimue the tinge is to be expected.
For my specific skin type, I did not receive a separate day and night cream but the moisturizer light which acts as both a day and night skin preparation. The cream is soft and mild on the skin, not leaving your skin dry and flaky neither does it make your face super glowy. The lite moisturizing formula acts as a good base for foundation application thereafter.
The final step for completion of phase one, is a good sunblock. The nimue SPF 40 is a light- weight non-greasy formula that is formulated to aid in DNA protection and repair. Also a great sunblock goes along way especially in saving one from the harsh winter sun burn.
My routine ought was documented in my cool online journal and it is advisable that the phase one routine is followed through for at least 6 weeks before one starts phase two.
Is there a difference?
Most certainly so. The reason nimue has created the app for documentation of the entire process is so that you can see for yourself that the nimue journey actually works. Your skin feels better and looks its best after use and improvement is most likely guaranteed.
Is there a downside?
Yes, guilt is the downside. We all know that the hype about new products dies down as life gets stressful and it becomes almost impossible to follow a long step by step routine every morning. Especially in winter when bed refuses to let you leave even when your alarm clock is screaming her lungs out and thus being late for work will certainly happen if you follow through with the routine on those days. The guilt and worry associated with not following through with the nimue routine daily is surely to be expected.
Solution: Wake up at least 20 to 25 minutes earlier.

No need for masks after nimue! Get rid of the expensive concealers! But, I'll let you decide if its cost effective or not?
